Django Django share rave remix of song ‘Glowing In The Dark’

FFO: FFO: Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem,Django Django

Glowing in the Dark, the second single from Django Django’s new album of the same name has, to date, enjoyed two incredible remixes.  The first courtesy of one of dance music’s most exciting producers and DJ’s Dance System and the second from heavyweight electronic dance legends Hot Chip.  To complete the remix trilogy the band stay closer to home – on Django Django’s Iridescent remix the band utilise their own renowned remixing skills to deliver a euphoric, rave inspired delirious take on the original.

Django Django’s Iridescent remix comes accompanied by a stunning original video from Mortis Studio.  Made during the first lockdown in a guerrilla style shoot in Portland USA, the video highlights an array of distinct characters each experiencing their own dizzying journey through the remix.

In the band’s own words:

This remix was done by Dave and Tommy during the first lock down and we decided to ask Mortis to do some visuals because we’re big fans of their work. What they came up with was perfect for the track. Hope you enjoy

Over the course of their extraordinarily accomplished discography to date, Django Django have constantly headed left where others have gone right. Described by The Guardian as “capable of making music that sounds close to perfection”, they are known for their genre defying eclectic sound and their new album “Glowing in the Dark” heralds, once again, the beginning of a thrilling new era for the band.

It’s a glorious move forward, infused with the kind of freshness and confidence that comes hand in hand with a newfound optimism.

Glowing in the Dark will be released via Because Music on 12 February 2021 on limited edition glow-in-the-dark vinyl, standard black vinyl, CD and digital download/streaming on all usual platforms.

Electro producers INIT release their second album, Gravity

0
FFO: The Prodigy,The Chemical Brothers,INIT

Five years after their debut, INIT‘s sound remains as hard to pin down as it is unmistakable. On their new album, ‘Gravity’, Benedikt Frey & Nadia D’Alò continue to merge elements of house, electro, acid & post-punk, this time with a ‘lighter & more playful’ perspective. The structures are more concise, vocals are more prominent & there’s a greater presence of pop elements.

In this INIT deliver some of their most memorable tracks to date. Recorded in their Berlin home, ‘Gravity’ is the result of the duo experimenting in the studio while searching for new material for their live set. Some of the inspiration came from new gear such as the vocoder we hear on tracks like ‘Disk-O’ or ‘Jungle’. Other cuts were influenced by their immediate context. ‘Wrong Coded’ calls out the territorial way some men behave towards women on the dancefloor. Lyrics are also important in Half Life’, a moody ballad about the hardships of the Berlin winter.

While in typical INIT fashion the general tone is slo-mo, narcotic & haunting, there’s also a place for fast-paced cuts likeFollow The Strings, which reminisces about rave euphoria from an ethereal perspective. Fresh angles from a duo who keep pursuing a very personal take on shadowy electronics. It might be more immediate but it’s as mystifying as ever. The album comes in a limited edition cassette with artwork by Arnau Pi

FFO: deadmau5, Carl Cox, Solardo, Rowetta

Manchester electronic favourites Solardo have joined forces with Happy Mondays vocalist Rowetta on new single ‘Enough’, out  via Ultra.

Combining high-energy synth stabs, euphoric rave sirens and Rowetta’s iconic, soul-drenched vocals, ‘Enough’ successfully captures the essence of the illustrious 90s rave scene. An ode to a vital moment in British dance music culture, this year has seen the clubbing industry across the world negatively affected due to COVID-19. From club closures and cancelled shows, the difficult year has left the music scene needing support and togetherness now more than ever. With this latest single, Solardo’s mission is to spark those feelings of being in the club, while drawing influences from the golden age of rave to show what we’ve missed out on this year. The release coincides with the announcement of a special Lost Horizons live stream that Solardo will perform on Boxing Day.

Solardo have carried their domination of the scene into the new decade after a 2019 that saw them deliver one of the songs of summer with the mammoth ‘XTC’. A collaboration with Eli Brown, the track received support from Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 as well as club favourites Richy Ahmed, Denis Sulta and Carl Cox. They also linked up with Chicago house legend Marshall Jefferson on ‘Move Your Body’, a single that has amassed over 12 million Spotify streams, house icon Armand Van Helden on ‘Power Of Bass’ and UK dance music tastemaker Paul Woolford on ‘Tear It Up’

Fellow Mancunian Rowetta Idah is best known for her work with the Happy Mondays, recording and touring with the band from 1990 and recently reforming with the original lineup. She has also released a string of singles across 2020, most recently linking up with London DJ and producer duo K & K on ‘Love Will Save The Day’, as well as collaborations with legendary producers Todd Terry, Kenny Dope and new-gen house music star, Oliver Heldens.

‘Enough’ taps into the iconic sound of British dance music in the 90s and holds a strong message.

Jack Trades and Kayrae have returned with their latest dance-infused hit, ‘Phantoms’ via Physical Presents. The single, released today, is just in time to get us into the holiday spirit with driving basslines and cascading electronic embellishments. You can catch the song here:

Jack Trades sheds some light on the single: “Kayrae and myself wanted to do a follow up on “Sideways” and knew, in terms of storytelling, that we wanted to talk about the next chapter of what really happened after being in a relationship that had no future. ‘Phantoms’ is a song about going through emotions of separation and that sooner or later we’ve all got to let go of our past. The result is something very different and unique, potentially shaping the future of the “Jack Trades” sound moving forward.”

Stream / Download: ‘Phantoms’

We’ve also included ‘Sideways’, a far more mellow song that shows the contrast and growth of their work. Here at Dave Rave, we’re loving their more upbeat sound in the latest release. Which song do you prefer? Let us know in the comment section below.
